Sound recordist for GSL VW training shoot

Stu has spent 3 days in Cambridgshire with GSL Media and crew as a Sound Recordist on a shoot for VW.
The shoot was for an interactive, online training module for sales representatives. The filming was carried out in a VW showroom/garage near Peterborough.
Due the location being open to the public, and also the garage was filled with mechanics working on up to 10 cars at once, sound was sometimes a challenge, but the crew still finished the shoot on time.
Maniac Films also provided a Blackmagic 4K camera & our new Aputure LED panels for the shoot.
The filming duties were carried out by Ben from GSL, who worked alongside Stu and 3 other crew members.

Live filming, vision mixing, DVD & Blu-ray production for Bridgwater Carnival 2015

We have had a very busy weekend including filming the 2015 Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, the largest illuminated procession in Britain.

In previous years we have simply provided live vision mising and cameras for the big screen. This year we have also been asked to use the recorded footage to create a DVD and Blu-ray release within 3 days!
We provided cameras and crew to film the parade and broadcast the footage onto a huge screen. The vision mixing was carried out by us in a van which we modified to work as an OB truck. We also displayed live footage of bands playing on the stage and of the crowds throughout the day in the run-up to the big event.
Using our new Blackmagic ATEM switcher and Samurai recorder, we were able to record the live mix which formed the basis of the edit.

Through out the day we used a range of static and roaming wireless cameras to film various events. During the evening procession we had 2 roaming cameras (one tethered & one wireless) and 3 static cameras. Stu used a special 5.1 audio holophone mic to capture a live 5.1 surround sound recording and a live commentary track conducted by Chris Hocking who was watching a live feed from the vision mixer.
The next day saw a mammoth edit session in which Mark used the live recording as a basis, then edited in additional shots recorded in each camera to cover any shots that were missed during the live event.
Meanwhile Stu mixed a live 5.1 Surround sound recording, created a Stereo mix and also mixed seperate versions of each with optional live commentary.

On Monday members of the Carnival committee visited the office for a 1st viewing, after which we spent the rest the day (and evening) finishing off the DVD & Blu-ray masters for collection on Tuesday monring. This was a huge edit with a very short turnaround but we were able to get it all done in time and the carnival organisers were very happy with the final product.

Once again the organisers were very pleased with the results and we hope to be back again next year!.

More NHS filming for Coffee Cup Training

We have been back to capture more footage at the North Devon District Hospital with John from Coffee Cup Training.
This is a continuation from the previous shoot at the start of the month, which couldn't be completed due to a technical issue with the tent structure that we needed to film.

The hospital has now received a replacement piece of kit and we were invited back to film the training session, in which hospital staff practice procedures for an emergency quarantine event.
The footage was captured on our Sony PMW-200 camera and delivered to John on a hard drive for the edit.

Alice in Wonderland at RHS Rosemoor

We have been filming with Rob, Dexter, Rosie & Sam from Entertainingly Different at RHS Rosemoor near Torrington in Devon
To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Alice's Adventures In Wonderland, a number of RHS gardens are holding special events. As part of the celebrations at RHS Rosemoor, Entertaininly Different are hosting a Mad Hatter's Tea Party. The ED crew were also asked to create a series of adverts (one for each of the participating gardens) to promote the events, and to help them achieve this, they called us in.
We set-up a tea party in the gardens for one scene, and moved down to the lake to film the remainder. The actors had to stay in costume all day, much to the amusement of garden visitors and a coachload of school children!
We will edit the 4 films with Rob and they should be appearing online soon.

Video workshops for Bristol University students

We have just finished a 2 day video training course for a group of Electrical Engineering students at Bristol University.
The department of Electrical Engineering would like their students to create short flims showing their work, progress and how the university is helping to further advances in the communications industry.
Most of the group (made up of PHD students & Postdoctoral researchers) had very little experience of filming so we took them from the absolute basics of video and sound recording through to filming out on location and then editing the footage.
Our picture on the left shows the students during a practical session. They had been split in to groups to experiment with speaking to camera and two groups ended up interviewing each other.

It was fantastic to watch their confidence grow and we hope that they learnt a lot that they can use to create some great videos in the near future.
