This kit combines the stabilising features of the DJI Ronin-M with the 4K quality of the Sony a7sII camera, providing you with a lightweight, solution for fantastic steady shots. We have also included the Blackmagic Video Assist 5" monitor, offering focus peaking, false colour and allows you to record 1080 in Prores or DNXHd (and HDMi/SDI conversion 4K to 1080 downconversion too).
The Ronin-M a motorised gimbal system that can fly cameras up to 3.5kg in weight. It also includes a second controller so that a 2nd operator can control the pan, tilt & roll while the 1st operator concentrates on movement. There is a fingerwheel to allow the 1st operator to also control these settings on the fly too when operating singularly.
The Ronin-M can be configured in any of three operation modes for different requirements with no change in functionality. Upright (overslung) Mode gives an eye-level viewpoint, while the normal underslung mode is for any viewpoint from chest height to ground level and in this mode can be supported by a jib or crane. Finally there is Briefcase Mode which is better for negotiating tight spaces but still with full functionality.
The Sony a7sII is a full frame mirrorless DSLR with 4K and HD video capability. It is also fantastic in low light. The camera can also record at speeds of up to 100fps in 1080 HD mode. The cameras other party trick is the 5-axis internal stabiliser which works with any lens, even older manual lenses since its the sensor itself which is stabilised.
The Blackmagic Video Assist 5" monitor adds a larger, easier to view screen that comes packed with features. The main one the 1080p ProRes recording to SD cards. If you feed this monitor a 4K signal it will automatically convert the signal to 1080 before recording although you can configure the A7Sii to output 1080 when in 4K shooting mode too.
Note: to connect to the Ronin via the mobile app (see below), you will need to create an account (takes a few mins) and then you will be asked for the Ronin Bluetooth password. The password is films1 (note all letters are lowercase as the password is case sensitive). We recommend the iPhone app - you can control from an Android app we find that a little bit less refinded.
