The Intel Goldcoast Oceanfest event was huge in 2004 - bigger and better then before. Many sporting and demonstration events were running concurrently in Croyde and Woolacombe and a film crew from Boomerang were covering sports events for a future Sky programme.

The Billy Buds Big Boy Paddle Race from Saunton to Croyde was raising money from the entrant fees for Surfers Against Sewage (SAS). Watch the whole clip here or view the segmented version at the Goldcoast Oceanfest Web site.

"Originally Ken Wells was going to wear the Helmet cam" said Mark Brindle from MANIAC films, "but on the day, Steve Altram was more keen to get that alternative shot". "This was a trial run with a new battery system and it worked superbly..thanks Steve for your help."

MANIAC films was there to help Yucca Media with generating Video to play on the big screen in between the live bands and various stage events. "We filmed a lot of interviews over the weekend, with the crowd and with some of the event organizers too. We filmed the O'neil pro surfing contest and the start of the paddle race" said Mark Brindle from MANIAC films.

"It was pretty hectic at times - rushing to get the video back to the screen to fit our time slots - there was no time to edit so we had to keep the shooting pretty tight".
"We put together a rough-cut DVD after the weekend which has turned out well and gives a great overview of the whole event" said Mark. "Later we re-edited and converted the DVCAM source into Quicktime MPEG4 movie clips for Yucca Media".
