O'Kalem Collection DVD build project for IFI completedManiac Films in North Devon have been working hard to complete a DVD project for the Irish Film Institute (IFI). The O'Kalem Collection is a rare glimpse into the film archives, showing for the 1st time in many years, a series of films made by the Kalem Film Company between 1910-1915.
We were sent the finished films by American documentary filmmaker Peter Flynn of BIFF Productions, who also made a 96-min documentary for the 2nd disk in the DVD box set called Blazing The Trail.
Here at Maniac Films we provided technical advice in preparing the films for DVD, created animated homepage menus using existing artwork and built the DVD menu structure, before dispatching the final Dual Layer tapes to the replicators (it was that long ago we used DLT Tapes for Dual layer DVDs).
The films have been digitally remastered and are accompanied by newly commissioned scores so they sound amazing. Watch a clip from one of the films above on the IFI YouTube channel. This is 'For Irelands Sake' and is part of the O'Kalem collection.
