The DVD is now due 2008! Sorry weve been inundated with work and this has been pushed to the back-burner, but Mark is back on the case and hoping to finish by early summer 2008. If you like your Sublime, Specials and a little bit of Bob Marley (who doesn't) then your in for a treat. This reggae dub outfit are famed amongst their North Devon counterparts for being masters of a sound that doesn't leave a man standing still when they hit Croyde Village Hall. Having rocked the North Devon scene for nearly 25 years, The Uni's are one of the best live performance bands in the country.
With so much support and all those eager ears crying out for more, The Uni's decided to once again try their hands at releasing a record. The music for this CD has been recorded over time and been mixed down to get as close to a live gig as possible, so if you close your eyes you could be there!
With summer fast approaching The Universe inspectors have that chilled out grinding sound that smacks of sunshine, cider, a dirty bass line and scooby doo sax saxophone that'll have you skanking on down.

Ive seen the Universe inspectors in Croyde many many times and this CD is as close to being there as you can get ! Just turn it up and dance around your house ! You might need to turn down the lights and turn up the heating to 1000 degrees to get closer to that Croyde Village hall feeling !
Great music !
I recommend you buy this CD now and then get down to see the guys playing live as soon as you can.

See brief bits of Ralph and Melvyn on the Maniac montage video clip. Weve been working on the sound mix for the DVD with Al Kendal from Small Town Mentality and have filmed more interviews with Nick and Denise Austin, Ralph Freeman and Melvyn. More yet to do though as were trying to find all the people who used to Rock with the Unis in the old days. Weve got some great surfing footage of Ralph in Madeira courtesy of Shea and some great '80s photos of the band !
The Universe Inspectors (aka "the Uni's")- a local institution in Croyde. "Have you been Inspected ?" Formed over 17 years ago, the Inspectors are still going strong and packing the hall to capacity and beyond. The reggae style music with echos of dub and soulful lyrics coupled with great sax playing from Nick makes this a memorable music experience.
"We are planning a documentary style production on the Universe Inspectors" said Mark Brindle from MANIAC films, and "you cant miss the main draw card of the music.." "..we filmed the gig in July and got the hall lighting engineer involved this time.. it was a great night.."

Local sound engineers Lee 'Leeroy' Thommen and Michael 'Pat' Paterson are helping to record the live performances and additional camera support from Andre Dore and Chris Preston helped to get a good coverage of the gig. "Andre has some great footage from last years gigs and Ralph has an old video from 10 years ago which we are hoping to use in the production" said Mark.
We filmed the gig again on the 28th August - if your were there - you might be in the crowd shots. Get Inspected!
Weve been filming some more with Melvyn - some great crashes on his mountain bike ! Plus footage of Ralph practising (at Puts) for Tow-in surfing at Oysters in tandam with Bristol filmaker Luke Thornton who is doing a documentary of the tow-in sessions with Wavelength Magazine.
