High Definition (HD) production equipment rental [PDF]
We rent our HD camera equipment, grip, lighting and edit systems for short term (one day), weekend hire, weekly or longer term rental periods for features. We organise courier shipping to/from our base in North Devon or you can collect and do some hands-on tuition. We aim to be very helpful in kit selection - we use all the kit ourselves so we can give you some advice or training if required - just get in touch and see if we have what you need.
Our monitor selection covers a range of uses, from large monitors for working on set, to smaller field monitors and HDMI monitors for working with video DSLR camers.
When working with a video DSLR, we recommend either the Small HD DP1x or the smaller Marshall monitors. Both are lightweight and work well with a HDMI input.
For larger or non-HDMI output cameras, we have the Tamuz or the smaller (and more portable) Panasonic monitors.
We also have devices to allow the larger monitors to be used with a HDMI camers through the use of a converter. Battery powering is available with every monitor for locations without a ower supply.

Cineroid HDMI Electronic Viewfinder for Canon 7D and 5D - 1 unit available

A lightweight monitoring solution, the Cineroid EVF HDMI Electronic Viewfinder.
The unit features a 3.2" 800x400pixel LCD screen used with a loupe and it works in the same way as the EVF on a ENG style camera. The eyepiece can be removed and the screen used as a monitor.
The EVF has a range of features including Pixel to Pixel mapping, in-focus peaking, saturation zebra, underscan mode and a Monochrome mode. It will accept a HDMI(480i,/480p/576p/720p/1080i) or Composite video signal
This model features HDMI loop-through, allowing a second external preview monitor to be run from the same signal.

The unit features a 3.2" 800x480pixel LCD screen used with a removable Zacuto loupe and it works in the same way as the EVF on a ENG style camera. The removable loupe allows the screen used as a monitor.

This lightweight monitor has HDMI, component and composite video inputs. It is packed with features including Focus Assist, False colour filter, pixel-pixel mapping, screen markers plus more advanced features.
The monitor can display a range of formats - PAL/NTSC 480i/p, 576i/p, 720p, 1035i, 1080i and vesa pc formats to XGA (1024x768). This monitor is ideal for DSLR shoots.
It is powered by Panasonic batteries or via an XLR4 cable. We can provide a Panasonic adapter to power the monitor from Pag batteries.

Small HD DP1x 8.9" 1280x720P HDMI monitor - 1 unit available

Our largest HDMI monitor is the Small HD DP1x 8.9" HDMI monitor with full 720p resolution 1280x720 with component HD and HDMI input. This monitor works perfectly with DSLR video cameras, such as the Canon 5D mkII, Canon EOS 7D and the Canon 1Ds mkIV.
The DP1 will also work perfectly with any professional camera, including the RED camera. For the RED camera the monitor also offers an anamorphic mode.
The DP1x offers more pixels for its size than any other monitor, giving you a much sharper HD image. it will also work with your laptop, so you can use it as a preview out when looking back at the rushes later in the day.
There also menu shortcuts/hotkeys and a 1:1 pixel mapping feature. You also have access to blue/red/green only colour modes for calibation and color composition, fully customisable colour value presets, custom overscan configurations and an auto-scale option for constantly varying input signals (for use with HDSLR cameras).

This is our Panasonic BT-LH80W 7.9inch HD monitor.
This widescreen multi-format HD electronic production monitor with pixel-to-pixel mapping at 1080 and 720 plus built-in waveform monitor and focus assist features is a solid performer and comes with a custom-fit portabrace case
This unit has been upgraded with a HD/SDI interface in addition to the composite/HD component inputs.
The monitor has a 800x480 pixel WVGA display and is powered using IDX v-lock batteries (supplied) or via XLR4 cable.

Our largest HD production is the Tamuz Falcon 15.4 inch full 1920x1080 HD field monitor
The monitor has a range of inputs including HD-SDI input (with HDSDI loop through), dual XGA input, CCVS and s-video. It also supports image flip, zoom and scaling, interlace and progressive formats. The monitor supports 1080i 29.97/25/23.98, 720p, PAL/NTSC.
The monitor is powered by pag V-lock batteries via an add-on plate or via mains adapter. It is fitted with a VESA monitor bracket to be mounted onto a heavy-duty lighting stand.

DAC9 HDMI-HD/SDI Converter - 1 unit available

A new addition to our rental equipment is a Datavideo HDMI to HD/SDI converter HDMI to HD/SDI converter.
The unit is equipped with one HDMI input and 2x HD/DSI bnc outputs. It also has a velcro strap on the back allowing you to mount it on to a tripod (see image)
This useful converter has a number of uses. Firstly it allows us to use a Canon 7d or 5D mkII with our Panasonic 8inch and Tamuz 14.4inch monitors.
Second, it allows for much longer cable runs from a Video DSLR or HDMI source. HDMI is not suitable for long cable runs, but by converting to HD/SDI you can run for up to 200m to your video device.
The unit is powered by a 12v mains power supply can can be tripod mounted using the supplied velcro straps.

Zacuto Z-arm - 4 available in various sizes
|

For a great and flexible way to mount a monitor or similar accessory, we have the Zacuto Z-arm in 3 different lengths, the small Z-arm(6 inches), the medium Z-arm(9 inches) and the large Z-arm (measuring 12 inches).
These arms are fully angle adjustable and we have found them to be very strong. To use them you will also need a zicro mount and a Redrock micro clamp which we will provide

For non-mains powering of the Marshall and Tamuz we have a set of Pag L95 Li-Ion batteries and charger.
The battery has advanced Li-Ion cell-technology that combines a 95 watt-hour capacity with a weight of only 745g. They mount using a standard v-lock fitting and we have a range of power plates to output the power via different cable types.
Each battery has a power circle that shows battery charge (4 steps).
The 4-way charger features a LCD screen for battery charge information and can charge up to 4 Pag batteries in parallel.

IDX v-lock battery system

A slimmer alternative to our Pag batteries, often paired with our Panasonic monitor are the IDX E7-s batteries and dual charger.
The battery has a capacity of 68 watt-hour capacity with a weight of only 522g. They mount using a standard v-lock fitting and we have a range of power plates to output the power via different cable types.
The IDX batteries are lighter and thinner, making them more versatile when shooting on location
The dual charger can charge 2 batteries in parallel but it can also be used to power an XLR4 device like the Pansonic monitor using an XLR4 cable.
