High Definition (HD) production equipment rental [PDF]
We rent our HD camera equipment, grip, lighting and edit systems for short term (one day), weekend hire, weekly or longer term rental periods for features. We organise courier shipping to/from our base in North Devon or you can collect and do some hands-on tuition. We aim to be very helpful in kit selection - we use all the kit ourselves so we can give you some advice or training if required - just get in touch and see if we have what you need.
Our video DSLR kit includes three Canon EOS 7D DSLR cameras with a range of accessories. As well as the camera we can provide a range of lenses including Canon and Tokina zooms as well as a full complement of Nikon fast primes with adaptors to work with the Canon. See our lenses page for more info.
We can also offer handheld and tripod mounted shooting rigs including shouldermounts, matteboxes, follow focus and top handles. See our rigs page for more info on these.
For monitoring we have the Small HD and Marshall HDMI monitors on our monitor rental page as well as external sound recording equipment on our audio rental page.

You will need several forms of ID and your own insurance. All private client (ie non-company) hire must be paid in advance or on collection. Please read our FAQ for payment and insurance information

Canon EOS 7D DSLRs with full HD video - 3 units available

The Canon Eos 7D DSLR is a HD video DSLR. Following the success of the Canon 5D mkII, the 7D has taken the DSLR video technology to a new level, introducing more frame rate options, dedicated video buttons and settings and many other improvements over it's predecessor.
The Canon comes equipped with a 18MP APS-C CMOS sensor, Full HD video at 24, 25 and 30P and 720p variable frame rate.
The 7D has both HDMI and composite video out for external monitoring, and will accept a powered external microphone for improved sound. Combine it with our Redrock DSLR kit for the ultimate shooting kit.

Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 lens
|

The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 AF tele-zoom lens.
This telephoto lens produces a very sharp image and provides filmmakers with a versatile zoom. With a widest aperture of f/2.8 constant through the zoom range, it will work very well in low light situations.
The lens features an internal focusing system with a minimum focusing distance of 1.5m (4.9ft).
Combine with our fader ND filters to work with this lens, giving greater light and aperture control.

Tokina 16-50mm AF f2.8 lens - Canon fit

If you need a great all-purpose, fast lens,we have two Tokina 16-50mm auto focus f2.8 lenses for our Canon EOS 7D, but of course it will work with most other Canon models, (not full frame).
The minimum focal distance is just 30cm and it features a one touch AF/MF system. Simply slide the focus ring towards the camera body to activate manual focus.
The lens comes equipped with a flower design bayonet lens hood. The lens also has a special "water repellant" optical coating on the glass, making it much easier to clean.

For really wide shots we offer the Tokina 11-16mm auto focus f2.8 lens for our Canon EOS 7D, but of course it will work with most other Canon models. (not full frame)

Zacuto Z-finder loupe
|
|
When working with an LCD screen outdoors,viewing the screen can be difficult in strong light. For these situations we have the Zacuto Z-finder Pro loupe.
The Z-finder is ideal for use with any LCD screen, reducing glare or any other peripheral distractions the the camera operator. It features a 2.5x zoom and an anti-fog coating on the lens.
The loupe is mounted using a stick on mount (easily removed later) onto which the loupe clamps and z-bands, which are elasticated straps that secure the loupe to the camera body. Of course we would recommend both to ensure a secure fitting.

The Z-Finder requires a disposable stick-on mount when used with a DSLR which is available for £5. The loupe will also be supplied with Z-bands to help secure the unit to the camera. The disposable mount is not required if used with the Zacuto EVF

Contineo 7D & 5D cage
|
|
New into the office is a Contineo DSLR cage from Viewfactor.
The Cage is a rigid, aluminium structure that completely surrounds the Canon EOS 7D body, (excluding the lens).
The cage is designed in a way that allows easy access to all buttons, panels and connections and also provides numerous mounting points for accessories.
The cage can be mounted onto our existing 15mm rod systems, so as well as providing an excellent level of protection for the camera, it inceases the versatility of the camera rig.

DAC9 HDMI-HD/SDI Converter
|
|
A new addition to our rental equipment is a Datavideo HDMI to HD/SDI converter HDMI to HD/SDI converter.
The unit is equipped with one HDMI input and 2x HD/DSI bnc outputs. It also has a velcro strap on the back allowing you to mount it on to a tripod (see image)
This useful converter has a number of uses. Firstly it allows us to use a Canon 7d or 5D mkII with our Panasonic 8inch and Tamuz 14.4inch monitors.
Second, it allows for much longer cable runs from a Video DSLR or HDMI source. HDMI is not suitable for long cable runs, but by converting to HD/SDI you can run for up to 200m to your video device.
The unit is powered by a 12v mains power supply can can be tripod mounted using the supplied velcro straps.

Pag v-lock battery system
|
|
For non-mains powering of the Marshall and Tamuz we have a set of Pag L95 Li-Ion batteries and charger.
The battery has advanced Li-Ion cell-technology that combines a 95 watt-hour capacity with a weight of only 745g. They mount using a standard v-lock fitting and we have a range of power plates to output the power via different cable types.
Each battery has a power circle that shows battery charge (4 steps).
The 4-way charger features a LCD screen for battery charge information and can charge up to 4 Pag batteries in parallel.

Hawk Woods dummy battery for Canon EOS 5D / 7D external powering
|
|
For external powering of the Canon EOS 7D or Canon EOS 5D mkII we have the Hawk woods dummy battery system..
The dummy battery allows the camera to be powered from an external source, such as our Pag L95 batteries. A powerplate to connect the dummy battery to the battery will be supplied if required.
The dummy battery cable terminates in a d-tap (or power con) connection.
