DVD Authoring & production

Do you need a professional DVD for your project or film? We can provide you with an expert service from menu design through to mass replication.
We can create a DVD for any project, from a feature film to a client mailer, even interactive DVD's and Dual-Layer disks.

The film: If your film/video is already encoded for DVD then great, but often this is not the case. We can encode and prepare any video for DVD viewing. This includes NTSC (North America) format video. We can also convert PAL to NTSC and vice versa for a DVD that will need a wider audience.

The Menu: We can design the disk menus for you, or we can work with existing designs, either working from a layered PSD file or by re-creating a flat image. We can also create animated menus, include video buttons, play audio over a menu and anything else that you may have seen on DVD.

Subtitling, multiple audio and angles: We can add a number of subtitle streams to your DVD. We can also add multiple audio streams to your disk if provided. These can be surround sound options, different languages, directors commentary or anything else you may require. We will build a menu into the DVD that allows for audio track changing, as well as activating the audio button the dvd remote for mid-viewing selection.

Dolby Approval and logo useage: We are Dolby approved, which means that our work has met the strict Dolby production standards. Any DVD produced by Maniac Films can bear the Dolby logo and trailers.

Short run DVD duplication & printing

Not only do we author and produce DVD disks, we can also duplicate and print copies of the master disk.
We can duplicate short runs of up to 1000 disks in-house. For larger runs please see the replication section below. Disks are copied using our duplication tower which creates 7 disks at once. Disk printing is handled by our Epson Disk Producer, an automated disk printer capable of working through 100 copies at a time.

Cover printing: We can also print DVD covers in-house. We can produce a cover to any size for different cases. We normally use glossy paper for inkjet printing, and we can prepare samples of your cover if required. We can also liase with printing houses to get a good price for ultra-high quality prints that rival those found on Hollywood DVDs. But we only recommend this for larger runs as it can be costly in small numbers.

DVD disks: We use two main types of disk for our duplication service. The 1st is a Ritek DVD-R printable disk. These feature a matte finish and look great if used with prints that feature mainly text and small logos. The disks themselves are reliable and resistant to errors.
Our second disk are Watershield type DVD-R. Watershield disks feature a glossy finish that is fantastic full image prints. As the name suggests these disks are water and smudge resistant.

Disk and cover print design: We offer a design service for DVD disk and cover prints. We can use existing artwork, or design from scratch. We can also include a unique barcode for your DVD for retail. Please contact us to discuss options.

DVD mastering and replication

For DVD and CD runs of over 1000 copies, it is advisable and more affordable to use replication instead of duplication. Replication is not carried out in house, but at a dedicated replication house.
We have a good working relationship with one of the largest replication houses in the UK and we can often negotiate a good price. Replication can also include very high quality Lithographic film or screen printing process for disk printing.

IOV holograms and trailers

As members of the IOV (Institute Of Videography) we are able to offer IOV holograms as a deterrent to those wishing to create pirate copies of a DVD.
The IOV hologram can be attached to the DVD cover and if anyone attempts to remove it the hologram backing will disintegrate, rendering it useless. The hologram is accompanied by a video trailer, which can be places at the start or the end of the DVD, informing the viewer that no hologram = a pirate copy.
The holograms and trailer can be added to any dvd or blu-ray project. Ask for details.

DVD/CD cases

First impressions are so important! In most cases this is given by the disk packaging. We can offer range of different DVD/CD cases to suit your needs. These range from a standard Amaray DVD case, cardboard mailers and c-shell cases to tin cases and even faux-leather.We can also souce a special range of biodegradeable and eco-friendly dvd storage options.
